Friend --

As many of you know, I announced my mayoral campaign on Jun. 22, surrounded by my family and friends, in front of the Mt. Juliet Police Station. Current Mayor Ed Hagerty has chosen not to seek re-election. I have been a city commissioner since 2010 and Vice Mayor since 2011.

“Because leadership and vision matter.”

Announcement.JPG

My top priority will be transportation. Now is the time to improve our roads in Mt. Juliet, which will reduce traffic congestion. My other top priority will be our first responders. The brave men and women of our police and fire departments sacrifice daily to protect our community, and they will always have my full support. I also want people to know that I will fight any efforts to lay-off our firefighters and first responders. These are the people who make Mt. Juliet a safe place to raise our children.

I want to keep taxes low for our residents. I will always support our local businesses while working to bring in new, quality, high-paying jobs to our city. Mt. Juliet is not defined by our politicians, but instead by the quality of the people who decide to call our city their home. I believe, as a city, our best days are ahead of us, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve you and your family for years to come!

Since being elected, I have sponsored legislation to remove the city’s red-light cameras, established the current Fire Department of Mt. Juliet, and led the fight to add a recall provision to the city charter. I have championed customer service, public safety, planning, and government transparency.

Thank you for the opportunity you have given me to serve this community. I would appreciate your vote and support!

Vice Mayor - James Maness

Virtual Town Hall

On Jun. 9, with the help of co-host Jackson Gallagher, we hosted our fifth virtual town hall. We fielded several questions, and the video has been watched several hundred times.

One of our goals is to provide inclusive engagement by offering a variety of ways for the public to participate. The purpose of the virtual town hall meeting is to give residents another way to interact and engage who might not have an opportunity or preference to do so otherwise.

Click here for information on our next virtual town hall to be held on Aug. 20.

Guardian Shield ALPR Program

The city has enjoyed great success with the new Guardian Shield ALPR program, and as a result, the police have been able to remove several wanted individuals from our streets. When this program was first proposed, I had some concerns about privacy and security around the program. I was able to work with the police department to author one of the strictest privacy and security laws before the cameras went online. The law also permanently prevents the cameras from being used for traffic enforcement, such as red-light cameras.
